Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For Your Safety

Q: What are some codes of conduct you require patrons to follow?

A: To ensure your family’s safety and/or the cleanliness of our site, it is important that:

  • every child in your party is accompanied by an adult.
  • your child is fully clothed, including diapers and shoes. (Tot Spot is the only exception to the shoe rule).
  • fellow Museum patrons, staff and volunteers are treated with respect and courtesy.
  • you notify a staff member (look for a Museum badge and/or blue apron) of any safety-related matters.

Q: What do the staff members in blue aprons do?

A: The Museum has a team of dedicated and talented Discovery Guides who help maintain a safe and educational experience for all Museum patrons. Discovery Guides help educate members about Museum exhibits, explain and uphold safety guidelines, locate lost children and “lost parents”, and otherwise serve as a point of direct contact between Museum staff and patrons.

Q: What should I do if there is an emergency?

A: Contact the nearest Discovery Guide or Museum staff member and inform them of the nature of the emergency – such as reporting a lost child, any behavior by another visitor that makes you/your child feel uncomfortable or unsafe, a first-aid emergency, etc. In addition, Museum staff is trained in emergency evacuation protocols and can direct you to the nearest exit in case of an emergency.
