Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! opens May 23 at Bay Area Discovery Museum

STEM-based exhibition kicks off the Museum's Summer of Curiosity, with special programming and expanded hours.

The insatiable curiosity of Curious George – the little monkey who has captured the imagination and hearts of millions of children and adults for nearly 80 years – comes to life in Curious George: Let’s Get Curious!, opening May 23, 2015 at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Designed to promote early exploration in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the exhibition will lead young visitors on a fun, interactive and meaningful adventure through Curious George’s world.

Based on H.A. and Margret Rey’s classic stories and inspired by the animated television series on PBS KIDS, the immersive exhibit environment recreates the neighborhood where Curious George lives with his friend, The Man with the Yellow Hat, and visitors will recognize familiar narratives through which key STEM concepts are woven and layered. Visitors can tinker with wheels and pulleys at a construction site, sort and weigh fruits and vegetables at the produce stand, experiment with momentum playing a round of miniature golf, build a whirligig in the country and pilot their own space adventure.

“We know how critical early STEM education is in developing creativity and critical thinking in children from a young age,” said Karyn Flynn, CEO of the Bay Area Discovery Museum.  “Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! brings STEM concepts to life and engages young children in a fun and playful way.”

Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! opens at the Bay Area Discovery Museum on May 23 and will continue through September 6, 2015. The exhibition will be the centerpiece of the Museum’s Summer of Curiosity, with expanded hours (opening 7 days a week from June 9 through August 23), special programming and monthly movie nights.  For more information, visit BayKidsMuseum.org/curiousgeorge.

Created by the Minnesota Children’s Museum, Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! is presented by 3M. Local support is generously provided by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, in alignment with their core value of early childhood education. Media sponsorship is provided by KQED.
