Museum Policies

We are committed to providing a safe and respectful place for children, as well as our staff, volunteers and other visitors. We support the development of positive values in young children: caring, equality and social justice, integrity, honesty, and responsibility.

All children must be accompanied by adults, and all adults accompanied by children.

Please supervise your children at all times in all exhibitions.

For safety reasons, please do not ride bicycles, tricycles, skates, rollerblades, scooters, or skate boards/shoes while visiting the Museum.

No smoking is allowed at the Museum.

For safety reasons, strollers are not allowed in most buildings. Look for posted signage.

Alcohol is prohibited at the Museum.

Please leave pets at home. Unattended animals are not allowed in cars or leashed outside the Museum, and only service animals are permitted on site.

Profanity is prohibited, as well as all other abusive behavior.

  • Group Policy: To ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, the Bay Area Discovery Museum requires all groups to maintain a minimum supervisory ratio of one adult for every five children at all times. We reserve the right to turn away visitors who do not comply with this 1:5 adult to child ratio. Group reservations must be made two weeks in advance through our online reservation form.
  • For Free First Wednesday, no groups of 10 or more children are allowed.
